An amazing start of start of Codespring Summer internships in Transylvania! Codespring Summer Internship is the ultimate part of a productive and fun holiday, while laying the foundations of a well-based software developer career. Even though the IT sector faces important changes lately, Codespring Mentoring Programme offers up-to-date, market focused extra training for the students involved. The culmination of this programme is the summer internship, which offers a great opportunity to gain relevant professional experience by working on projects with great potential, guided by our dedicated mentors.

Dynamic start with tasty treats

Thanks to their perseverance on the university and in our mentoring programme, they were selected to attend the most intensive phase of the program: the summer internship organized between 30th June and 29th August for Sapientia Univeristy students, and between 14th July and 19th September for Babes-Bolyai University students.

Their first week was full of fun and useful activities: they started the internship with a short onboarding, introducing them to the Codespring|Softech company history and the lifecycle of the programme they take part in. Then they attended an office tour and a coffee break with their future mentors, followed by a time management which can contribute to optimizing their work in the future. The next few days they were busy attending an intensive Scrum training with a lot of exercises, and in Targu Mures, they were present at the thesis defenses of recent graduates. A refreshing ice cream break, pizza party and a visit in the adventure park added a little extra taste to a really dynamic start, which will be followed by a summer internship full of special moments and devoted work.

Promising projects with useful topics

During the following 2 months, the participants will plan and develop from scratch the project ideas they suggested or preferred to choose, in groups of 2, with the constant guidance of our dedicated senior software developers. This way, our mentored students will not only spend their summer productively in their professional field, but they will earn up-to date programing skills and get an insight into the lifecycle of a complete project from A to Z, as well as into the most effective methods of work in IT.

This year, our mentors will contribute to the development of 10 exciting projects:

  1. AR Glasses: The project aims to develop applications for the XREAL Air2ultra AR glasses that facilitate different workflows or game steps by analyzing camera shots and providing suggestions for the next step. The team is also considering developing virtual interfaces and analyzing and translating sign language.
  2. GDPReasy: This app simplifies your company’s GDPR processes for publishing marketing and PR materials. Using AI analysis, it identifies whether all employees in a photo have given consent for publication based on their GDPR preferences and portrait photo. If the AI is unsure, manual validation would also be available.
  3. SmartHome: Students will create a smart home app using Sonoff devices, automating operations with DIY smart switches, control panels, wall switches, security devices, sensors, and smart plugs.
  4. The Other Side of the Cube website: The goal is to create a platform for the student organization that will allow users to announce events, publish reports, browse photos, and register for events. The website will also include an admin interface.
  5. Beekeeping Application: Based on the idea of our summer intern, this app helps beekeepers manage their apiaries. It allows them to record and track hive information, including feeding and medication schedules, honey and pollen collection, and more. The app also provides statistics, statements, and tutorials.
  6. Digital Healthcare Diary: The app helps parents track their children’s illnesses, record symptoms, and present timelines for doctor’s visits. Users can manage multiple children’s data, track medication, and share profiles.
  7. Hybrid tools for modern education: The idea is to create a virtual classroom with tests and surveys that mix digital and print content. Students upload photos of their problems, which are corrected by teachers on the interface and returned to students, even with automated feedback.
  8. LearnWithMe: The LearnWithMe mobile app uses artificial intelligence to enhance the learning experience. No matter the subject or topic, it helps you learn faster and in a more enjoyable way.
  9. The Interactive Museum: The project lets users interactively explore a museum’s exhibitions. BLE devices provide indoor navigation and location-based information, the app reading content automatically based on visitors’ movements and offering personalized tours.
  10. Gaspulse: This web app collects and tracks gas prices, displays them on a map, and generates statistics on price trends. It uses historical prices and other factors to predict future changes.

Beyond a traditional summer internship

The summer internship ends by the end of August and mid September (for UBB), and in the last week they will hold a presentation for the Codespring|Softech community to sum up the work and progress they made during the past 2 months. Even though in the autumn they will return to the university, they won’t leave with empty hands; besides the professional experience and knowledge they will acquire in the summer, they will gain access to a lot of extra benefits during and after the summer internship:

  • They will gain relevant experience in planning and developing a real, relevant and complex project, having constant access to professional mentorship.
  • They will learn how to work effectively in a team, including not only the development of their professional, but their planning and communication skills, too.
  • They participate in more trainings, including professional and soft skills courses, broadening their horizons and helping them in their work even more.
  • They might continue the work on their projects after the internship period, so they can use it as their thesis and on students’ conferences next year, with useful help from their senior developer mentors.
  • By joining our team for the whole summer, they can build precious professional relationships and even friendships.
  • Based on their skills, attitude, or the work and progress they make, they might get invitation for a job interview after their successful graduation.

Summer internship in Transylvania, based on good partnerships

The Codespring Mentoring Programme celebrates its 15th anniversary; the renowned program is available for the IT students of Transylvanian higher education institutions, such as Babeș-Bolyai University at Cluj-Napoca and the Sapientia University at Targu Mures, during their second academic year.

The collaboration with the IT students themselves originates from excellent partnerships with Transylvania’s best universities: year after year, we support in multiple ways the events organized at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics of both universities mentioned. We also contribute to the activities of their student organizations, providing them help in making the most out of their activities, including scientific conferences, job fairs, students’ camps, board game or quiz nights, and parties, too.

We strongly believe that sustaining a great partnership with the specific universities will contribute to the most diversified and up-to date qualification of the next generation of employees, including not only professional knowledge but also other essential soft skills like presentation, teamwork and the ability to adapt to changes.

Three excellent places to choose from

However the major part of Codespring Mentoring Programme is organized during the academic year, and this way it mostly takes part in our offices at Cluj and Targu Mures, the summer internship can be completed also in the office at Odorhei. All of these cities have their unique atmosphere with plenty of advantages.

  • Cluj-Napoca is one of Transylvanian students’ favourite destinations, with its vibrant cultural and nightlife. Being one of the top cities of Romania in IT education and in hosting a wide range of tech start-ups, major IT companies and regional centers of international firms, it offers excellent career opportunities for the freshly graduated IT professionals, both on a national and international level.
  • Targu Mures is a rapidly emerging tech city with a popular university, especially amongst Hungarian speaking students, ensuring a friendly and youth-centered city life. As more and more tech companies discover the potential of Mures region, a high demand for skilled developers arises, while the living costs are moderate compared to the larger cities.
  • Hosting a great start-up accelerator, Odorheiu Secuiesc is a good choice for all those who would like to escape from the crowded life of a major city, while having access to all the similar job and leisure time opportunities. With lots of green areas, parks, cultural events and cafés, it can keep everybody in move, being financially more accessible.
