By the end of July 2021, beginning of August 2021 our team has welcomed the young students in information technology, computer science and mathematics from Babeș-Bolyai Univeristy and Sapientia – The Hungarian University of Transylvania in our Codespring 2021 Summer Internship program. A total of 24 mentees have joined our hybrid teams in Cluj-Napoca and Odorheiu Secuiesc in Transylvania, Romania. The summer projects will cover interesting topics such mobile app development, web application development, Kubernetes cluster and artificial intelligence application development.

How did our 2021 summer internship at Codespring in Transylvania start?

The Summer Internship at Codespring is already a much awaited experience by the young IT and computer science students, especially in Cluj-Napoca where the city has a vibrant academic center! Due to the ongoing pandemic situation, we consider that more IT and software development enthusiasts got the chance to join the ranks of our professional internships in software development in an online or hybrid format.

After 95 hours of interviews, the team of 27 mentors narrowed the selection lot at a total of 24 students. Congrats for all those who were accepted and got the chance to make their first steps in the software development arena!

Who were the lucky IT and computer science students?

This year, the main lot of interns was selected from the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, namely from the second year of study. We also had third year and master degree students from both Babeș-Bolyai University and Sapientia – The Hungarian University of Transylvania.

While 79% of the students interested in our program are male, we also had a very nice 21% female participation – a fact that definitely made us happy because we know that girls are good at coding and we want to encourage them more to join software development industry.

Summer internship topics covered this summer

The teams mentored by both junior and senior mentors were split on various projects. During the summer of 2021 they all were involved in learning the specific stages and processes for:

• Mobile application development – a domain that is extremely trendy and affects our daily lives
• Web application development – with a modern approach, in tune with the IoT world and our hyper connected society
• Kubernetes cluster – to get a grasp of automating deployment, scaling, and management of containerized applications.
• AI (artificial intelligence) application development – as this domain is considered the main entry point in the new tech era.
