The closer the bonds within a community, the more naturally unique traditions develop, which, from time to time, deepen the connection among team members. The Codespring|Softech’s Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely) office anniversary is undoubtedly a prime example of this: throughout the year, we enjoy a variety of social events that are important to all of us – both colleagues and family members alike. The series of events kicks off with the office anniversary in March – this year we celebrated our 17th anniversary with over 40 people.

Odorhei Office Anniversary

The Community Vibes that Beat WFH

The team attending the Odorhei office anniversary was much more than just a simple employee community: year after year, colleagues and their families continue to deepen and build bonds with other team members. Shared hobbies, family outings outside the workplace, and countless shared memories have enriched the past 17 years – and since then, this community has continued to grow not only in memories but also in membership, thanks to both new colleagues joining and families expanding. We are active and enthusiastic participants in each other’s significant milestone events, and we are also happy to involve each other in spontaneous leisure activities.

Therefore, the office itself is more than an average workspace. It is a vibrant, bustling community area that employees enjoy visiting whenever possible, even though remote work options and hybrid work models are common in the IT sector. Our team members understand and feel that daily interaction – even with colleagues they aren’t working on the same project with – adds much more to their lives than just financial returns and professional success:

  • the sense of belonging to a community has a positive effect in itself, especially for those with a more reclusive lifestyle
  • the sense of community – and the supportive behavior of colleagues – provides a stabilizing force on difficult days
  • the fact that we can share the positive moments of our lives with one another enhances them
  • in a diverse community like ours, we can learn a lot from one another not only professionally but also in terms of lifestyle and mindset – we “lift each other up.”

A Rich History, a Stable Present

This year, we celebrated the 17th anniversary of the opening of our office in Odorhei. Among the IT companies with a presence in our town, we are proud to say that we are one of the most long-standing and, to our great delight, perhaps one of those with the steadiest IT team. More of our senior software developers played a key role in the establishment of the local office, and majority of them have been strengthening the team since the very first years. To this day, through their perseverance and loyalty, they are the cornerstones of our local community, and, of course, with their significant experience, they serve as a source of inspiration for our multi-generational team every day.

The Odorhei office anniversary event is one of the annual highlights marked in red on our colleagues’ calendars, and – to our great pleasure – it is also a priority for teammates living farther away to attend if possible. Every year, we put together the event’s program based on our team members’ preferences; the core program is a festive dinner, and we always add a little “extra” to it with a team-building aspect.

Fans of Each Other Instead of Rivals

This year, a group bowling outing made the Odorhei office anniversary even more memorable, leaving many people in no hurry to leave early. Colleagues and their partners organized themselves into teams that brought together representatives from different generations and projects – showing that differences do not divide them but rather make their teams even stronger and more vibrant, just like in their everyday work.

This kind of collaborative challenge highlights the fact that, just as at work, even on the bowling alley they are not opponents, but allies and teammates. They are living examples of the fact that where the members of a community support and encourage one another with genuine enthusiasm and genuinely celebrate each other’s individual growth, overall performance also continues to improve. The rest of the evening – the delicious treats and pleasant conversations following the elegant dinner, which lasted until dawn – reinforced this lesson: as individuals grow, experience success, and maintain a positive mindset, the community as a whole becomes stronger.

The Value of Complexity

This is how our offices become places where it’s nice to return, even if on a dull Monday morning or after a shorter or longer absence. Where coffee doesn’t serve as a means of survival, but as an ingredient for pleasant little chats. Places where shared hobbies aren’t just a way to escape accumulated stress, but rather enjoyable experiences with others. Where private life is not an obstacle, but an organic part of the greater whole that is the community to which we belong. Where a colleague is not defined solely by work performance and professional competences, but rather as a unique, complex, and valuable member of this extraordinary team, with all of their qualities and motivations. And as such, they are not someone who can simply be “replaced.”

Codespring|Softech is an organically growing IT company with a 28-year history in Transylvania. For our constant growth, besides using the most up-to-date technology and delivering high-quality work, we also feel it essential to invest in our community, including not only our diverse team of colleagues but also their family members.
