HCI (Human-Computer Interaction): On the Verge of Change

Does “Siri”, “Evi” or “S Voice” sound familiar to you? Do you use “tap screen” or “swipe screen” for explaining a game on the mobile phone? If yes, it is because we are all witnessing a spectacular technology drift in the way we interact with computers. We are at the point where we can give a command to our computing devices empty-handed! This incredible achievement is due to those visionaries who aimed to make the interaction between the human and the machine faster, simpler and more efficient. Their findings and newest dillemmas are the core of Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) field.

If the “mouse” proved to be an almost providential innovation for the information technology science, what would the empty-handed technologies make out of it? Will HCI developments be the prelude of spreading sophisticated artificial intelligence among people? Undoubtfully, technologies enabling HCI render cutting-edge topics that call-out for debate

Five Tire-Melting Engines of CEE IT Market

Between 2012 – 2014 the Central Estern Europen (CEE) IT makets will register at least a double growth rythm in comparison to the GDP growth rate of the area, minimizing the difference to western countries. Surging interest for mobile technologies and cloud computing and absorbtion of non-refundable European financial grants will push the IT market growth in Romania as high as 12.7% in the coming years – a recent study by Erste Group revels, based on data from the European IT Observatory. IT spending will grow by 8 to 15 percent in 2012, especially in countries like Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia. Factors that will generate the growth of IT budgets are related to the need to reduce costs and increase operational efficiency, but also the need to increase labor mobility and flexibility of IT systems in general. Another indication of the study is that this favorable context opens the opportunity of a new wave of mergers and acquisitions, especially among small IT companies that are flexible and rapidly absorbing the new technologies.

Computer Simulated Real World Behaviors

One of the most spectacular capabilities that human kind has developed is that of planning ahead, of projecting things, phenomena and events in the future. Yet, how to choose among multiple options? How to capture and foresee dynamics? Often, the most reliable and elegant solution is mathematics. Encoding real dimensions and characteristics as numerical markers and adding change factors in the same format, everything resumes at solving several equations.  Based on such clear principle, the task becomes difficult when facing the amount of data that needs to be processed. (!) That’s why specific computing technology has been developed and is currently capable of delivering consistent simulations.

High-Tech: Digital Video and IP Television

Over two decades, several parts of the world have been experiencing the penetration of IPTV in our homes and workplaces. Specialists raise the bar and apply live streaming and video-on-demand in ultra-specialized fields like: medicine, aerospace, military or scientific research.

What does IPTV involve? Who are the customers? What industries can make the most of it? Where is it heading to? – These are some questions we will try to answer briefly in this article.
